  1. So far, I find Holden intriguing. His outlook and personality in general is very unique. I like the way he talks about his thoughts because it allows me to get a feel for who he is and it brings the character to life. There is something comfortable about Holden because his character is so realistic and easy to relate to.

  2. So far i think Holden is a funny character. He tells it like it is, and doesn't sugar coat anything. He is a very believable character and we, being teenagers, can understand him well. " Game,my ass. Some game. If you get on the side where all the hot-shots are, then it's a game, all right-I'll admit that."

  4. I would have to say that I’m amused with Holden’s character in the novel so far. He has a strong personality that tells it like it is, which truly shows how realistic he is. I’m very curious to see how he will get through his life being so care free. I think in modern day people can relate to Holden’s character easily and this appeals to most readers. “I’m the most terrific liar you ever saw in your life. It’s awful. If I’m on my way to the store to buy a magazine, even, and somebody asks me where I’m going, I’m liable to say I’m going to the opera. It’s terrible.” (P 16). I feel as though this quote explains Holden’s character right now.

  5. So far, I think Holden is a very interesting character. He can be very serious at times, and the next, he is doing something crazy. "All of a sudden- for no good reason, really, except that I was sort of in the mood for horsing around- I felt like jumping off the washbowl and getting old Stradlater in a hlaf nelson." I like the fact that he is easy to relate to, and has an insight that is typical to a teen; annoyed with the world, and the people, around him.

  6. So far I think that Holden is an extremely comical character. He tells it like it is and he seems very genuine and not afraid to tell people what he thinks. Also, I think Holden is actually a very kind, and smart person but he doesn't let on that much. "I felt sorry as hell for him, all of a sudden. But I just couldn't hang around there any longer, the way we were on opposite sides of the pole, and the way he kept missing the bed whenever he chucked something at it, and his sad old bathrobe with his chest showing, and that grippy smell of Vicks Nose Drops all over the place." (P 15).

  7. I feel Holden is annoying. I feel that he is a miserable person who complains about the littlest things. "The first football game of the year, he came up to school in this big goddam Cadillac, and we all had to stand up in the grandstand and give him a locomotive-that's a cheer." Pg. 16

  8. From what we have have read so far i like Holden. I think hes a very honest character and he doesn't hold anything back, and i like that about him. I also like how he looks at people and situations differently then most people. He focuses more on the inner beauty and less on what people appear to look like on the outside. "I liked her. She had a big nose and her nails were bitten down and bleedy-looking and she had those damn falsies that point all over the place, but you felt sort of sorry for her."

  9. From the parts of the book that we have read so far i would say that Holden is a very "real" character. “I’m the most terrific liar you ever saw in your life. It’s awful." (Page 16) Many people that are liars would never admit to it because being a liar is looked down upon, for him to be able to admit so easily that he lies a lot says something about how "real" he is, he doesn't sugar coat anything to make himself or what he's saying seem better.

  10. My impression of Holden is that he is a pessimistic kid who thinks very lowly of others. "Okay," Stradlater said, but I knew he probably wouldn't. You take a guy like Stradlater, they never give your regards to people. Pg. 33

  11. Holden for me is a very interesting character. He has a sense of humor, and is very witty. Holden is very honest and tells things the way they are. I find this interesting because I’m not used to having authors put characters in their book that just come out and say things. For an example, at the beginning of chapter three Holden comes right out and says, “I’m the most terrific liar you ever saw in your life. It’s awful.” He doesn’t try to hide that he’s a good liar, he just tells you. I also find Holden interesting because he’s comical and is not afraid to laugh at himself. Holden just starts to tap dance in the bathroom because he’s bored, and he think’s it’ll be funny. Holden is a lot different from other characters, which makes him so intriguing.

  12. As of so far in the novel I would admit that I find Holden to be an extremely interesting character. He isn’t like other characters that you may read about, he’s different. It’s as though he can be either extremely serious or just all out there. A quote in which I feel best exemplifies him as of now is the following "All of a sudden- for no good reason, really, except that I was sort of in the mood for horsing around- I felt like jumping off the washbowl and getting old Stradlater in a half nelson." This shows that he can be crazy at times just for the heck of it. I believe I enjoy his character the most because he reminds me of my friends as well myself.

  13. I've only been reading The Catcher In The Rye for a little bit but so far, I love it. I have heard many great things about Holden and the way he writes. I have really been enjoying the book and I can not wait to finish it. Holden is a very talented author.

  14. In the novel The Catcher on the Rye, I find the main character and author Holden is real because he is not a perfect person. He admits he has flaws, he's not perfect, he's a hippocratic and judgmental. He judges adults and says that they are all phonies. Holden is afraid to grow up and is especially lonely.
