  3. The scenes where Holden describes the child singing on the side of the road, where he talks about Phoebe, and when he describes his fondness for the museum and his dislike for change all support the idea that Holden does not want to grow up. He seems to want to hold on to his childhood because everything was so much more simple and he was surrounded by innocence. A song that relates to this is "Yesterday" by the Beatles. "Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away. Now it looks as though they're here to stay. I believe in yesterday"

  4. When Holden does not feel like doing something, it shows how lazy he is. For example, in the scene when Holden walked back to the hotel. Holden complained on how he didn't feel like going in and out of a cab and on how he sometimes doesn't feel like riding an elevator. Holden seems lazy because he is lazy about doing lazy things. Even though he walked all the way back, he complained about the way there. The song I chose was Lazy by Deep Purple
"Well my trying ain't done no good
I said my trying ain't done no good
You don't make no effort no not like you should"

  5. In the scene where the prostitute had just left Holden's room, Holden decides to sit down, feeling miserable, as he talks out loud to Allie. I think this shows that Holden is a very lonely guy, and really has no where to go, no one to see, and no one to really talk to. This scene reminded me of the song (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay by Otis Redding. The lyrics that best represent how Holden feels in this scene are, "...'Cause I've had nothing to live for, and look like nothing's gonna come my way... Looks like nothing's gonna change. Everything still remains the same. I can't do what ten people tell me to do, so I guess I'll remain the same. Sittin' here resting my bones, and this loneliness won't leave me alone..."

  6. Holden had a very hard time when his younger brother Allie died from Leukemia. The night Allie died Holden slept in the garage and broke all of the windows with his fist. He broke his hand so he couldn’t break the windows of the station wagon. Holden always talks about how intelligent Allie was and what a nice kid he was. When Holden had to write about something descriptive for his roommate’s paper, he wrote about Allie’s baseball mitt that had poems written all over it. This scene reminds me of the song “Slipped Away” by Avril Lavigne. “I miss you, miss you so bad, I don't forget you, oh it's so sad. I hope you can hear me I remember it clearly, the day you slipped away was the day I found it won't be the same.”

  7. Holden has thought about Jane in almost every chapter and no matter what he is doing he has mixed emotions about her. He isn't sure if what he is feeling is love for her or not but when Stradlater goes on a date with her it upsets him.
The song is "What is love?," and the lyrics that remind me of the pain that Holden felt when Stradlater went on the dat were "What is love?, baby dont hurt me, dont hurt me, no more."

  8. Holden is a very lonely person and has a huge crush on Jane, she is always on his mind. I chose the song "My Apartment" by Avery Pkwy
"As I sit in my apartment staring at the wall
    All these tears I’ve wasted
    You watched them fall
Every single night I’ve wasted here alone
All this time you watched me
    I didn’t even know
Am I tired of waking up feeling there’s nothing worth fighting for
    And nowhere to go
Is there someone who can pick me up, hold my hand, and show me love
    I’m running to You
    Lets try something new"

  9. Holden is lonely therefore always looking for someone to talk too. In the novel, when Holden is waiting in the phone booth thinking for someone to call, everyone he wants to call he can’t because he finds a reason why he shouldn’t call them. The song that reminds me of Holden is “Daylight” by Matt & Kim. The lyrics that remind me of this scene goes “these sidewalks liquid then stone building walls and an old pay phone it rings like all through the daylight, it rings like all through the daylight.” The constant ringing they refer to in the song reminds me of Holden’s mind thinking for someone to call, but when he calls no one picks up because in reality he really has no one to call.

  10. Holden faces aging and the crossing from a child to an adult. Holden speaks highly of his sister, Phoebe, and the children he saw in the city, but regarded the adults such as the ones he met in the hotel as brainless scum. Holden has this point of view because he is facing maturity and the difficulty of growing up. A song that reminds me of this is "D@*mit" by Blink 182. "But everybody's gone And I've been here for too long To face this on my own Well I guess this is growing up Well I guess this is growing up"

  11. Holden is a very complex character with a strong hearted soul. He is confused about himself and about life in general. There is no specific scene that describes him; I believe small pieces of him are slowly reviled within every page. "Maybe" - By Sick Puppies perfectly symbolizes Holden's feelings about everything and how on the inside he has many fears about life just like everyone else, though he easily disguises them and pushes them to the side for most of the world.
These are some of the lyrics that best symbolize Holden:
    “Maybe I'm a dreamer
    Maybe I'm misunderstood
Maybe you're not seeing the side of me you should
    Maybe I'm crazy
    Maybe I'm the only one
Maybe I'm just out of touch
    Maybe I've just had enough

    Maybe it's time to change
    And leave it all behind
I've never been one to walk alone
I've always been scared to try
So why does it feel so wrong
    To reach for something more
To wanna live a better life
    What am I waiting for?
    'Cause nothing stays the same
    Maybe it's time to change

    Maybe it's hopeless
Maybe I should just give up
What if I can't trust myself?
What if I just need some help?”

  12. On page 90, Holden felt very depressed. This was a bad part in the novel for him. He was very lonely and felt miserable with himself. He just wanted to die. He no longer wanted to be apart of society, Holden just wanted out. This scene reminded me of a song by Mac Miller called Another Night. This song is about a guy who feels very alone and depressed, just like Holden.

    Lyrics:
Its just another night alone..I spend another night alone.
Stuck in my crib like glue..Thats what I do, its nothin new.

  13. in the book when holden asks for the prostitute to come to his room so that he can have sex with her but in the end all he ends up wanting from her is a conversation. i think this shows that holden really is just lonely.

    Lonely - Akon

    Lonely I'm Mr Lonely,
    I have nobody,
    For my own
I'm so lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely
    I have nobody,
    For my own
    I'm so lonely,

  14. Every day I wake up
    I hope I'm dreamin
    I can't believe this sh**
    Can't believe you ain't here
Sometimes it's just hard for a n**** to wake up
It's hard to just keep goin
It's like I feel empty inside without you bein here
I would do anything man, to bring you back
I'd give all this sh**, sh** the whole knot

This song relates to Holden when he talks of missing Allie. I thought this song was perfect for Holden's love for Allie and how much he misses hi now that hes gone.
